GUIDELINES TO ACCEPT WHEN SIGNING
UP
Tole Friends' mailing list is an active
list, dedicated to Decorative Painting, forming of friendship
and general networking in relation to the Decorative
Painting Industry.
The lists generates an average of 60
- 80 messages per day, which you can receive as individual
messages, daily digest or read from the message board.
In general, the mailing list is unmoderated but - as
conflictive situations might occur in any community,
full moderation of the entire membership or moderation
of certain members can be decided by the Board without
the obligation to send a specific notification through
the mailing list. All new members are moderated for
a limited time period.
Tole Friends is a free list, which does not require
any subscription payment. Independent of that, registering
with Tole Friends is a committment for members to follow
the guidelines and also to observe the general
rules of net ettiquette.
Guidelines, present and future, are binding for all
members. No exceptions are made. Lack of observing these
will lead to a maximum of three warning
messages from the Board or assigned monitors. Sending
of the third message will also result of removal of
any offending member from our membership. We suggest
that anyone who does not agree to the guidelines abstain
from joining Tole Friends or - in the case of future
additions - just unsubscribes from our member's list.
Tole Friends is not the only on-line community about
decorative painting and the same or similar information
can be obtained by joining other lists or on-line communities.
We have few guidelines or obligations, but request you
to read these carefully before accepting them by clicking
the box on the membership form.
Each email should to be signed with minimum
first name, last name and email address, indicating
Town and State is appreciated. Email signatures must
not exceed 5 lines. A sample of a proper email signature
is: (red = minimum, blue = maximum)

Participation on the list is required. While daily posting
by each of our almost 2000 members would result in a
flood of messages, we do not approve of members who
are 100 % passive. Posting is simple and everyone sooner
or later has a question or suggestion.
An interactive mailing list becomes interesting through
the input from all members and becomes monothematic
when only a small percentage of the members post.
Business & Advertising
The list may not be used ONLY for
personal sales/promotion.
Send advertisment or promotional messages ONLY on
Mondays with MMD (Monday Market Day http://tolefriends.com/mmd.html
) in the subject line.
Free give-aways
Painters are a very sharing group and ever so often
someone decides to give away surplus books, packets,
brushes or supplies for free or just for the cost of
shipping. While this is a very noble custom, we request
that our members do not offer any freebees via
the mailing list.
Free give-aways can either be donated to Tole Friends
in order to be used as prizes for our charity program,
during convention parties or to be auctioned off for
a very reasonable price by Tole Friends as a general
fundraiser or should be offered through other mailing
lists.
Flaming - is not allowed in any
form. No personal references/ attacks on any lister/teacher/product/mfg,
etc. in any form are allowed. Personal opinions are
welcome but must not be inflammatory. If you have any
question as to whether your response is appropriate,
send it to yourself, wait two days and then decide whether
to send to the list.
Flaming includes any negative comments
that are directed to or about Tole Friends as an organization,
or any of its Board members or volunteers, whether the
flaming occurs on the Tole Friends' list, or in any
other public forum such as another mailing list.
Many of our members are also members of other decorative
painting lists and this type of negativity will not
be tolerated. Any member who feels the need to
flame against Tole Friends as an organization, its Board
members, or volunteers, is obviously unhappy with the
list and should have their membership terminated either
voluntarily or as a Board decision.
Flaming will be referred to the Board
- first offense will put you on moderated. Second offense
- off the list. Decisions by board are final.
Cross posting or attachments are not
permitted.
Please remember these guidelines, if needed
print the page out. Your membership will be activated
within a maximum 48 hours.
